The Åland Island landscape consists of more than 6500 islands and islets. Mariehamn, with its 11 000 inhabitants, is a very popular summer town to visit for both Finnish and Swedish as wells as for foreign tourists. The city centre offers many services; hotels, restaurants, shopping centre, all within walking distance of the MSS base in East Harbour. Starting your charter in Mariehamn gives you a variety of possibilities to experience characteristics of the different areas: enjoy the beautiful Åland archipelago or sail one-way to Taalintehdas or Stockholm.

The MSS base is situated in Östra hamnen (East Harbour), right in the city centre of Mariehamn. The distance to the ferry terminals (Viking Line and Silja Line) is about 1,5 km and to the airport about 3 km. There are flight connections and several ferry connections every day from Stockholm, Turku and Helsinki to Mariehamn. Ferries operating these routes are Viking Line, Silja Line, Eckerölinjen, the airline companies flying the routes are AirÅland and TurkuAir.

The base is a well-equipped and favored guest harbour with facilities such as toilets, shower, sauna, shore power, fresh water, fuel station, suction disposal, washing machine, kiosk and restaurant. Grocery shops, hotels, banks, ATM, restaurants and cafés are found in the city centre within walking distance, some 100 metres from the base.
